Installation Notes:
-----------------------

There are two `configure' options needed to properly compile this package
for installation.

--prefix
--sysconfdir

The `--prefix' option sets environment varible for the installation of the
packages executables, images, and man page.
On most systems this option should be `--prefix=/usr'.

The `--sysconfdir' options set the environment variable for the installation
of the init start-up script "tzod" in the "init.d" directory for the TZO
service to start at boot.
Make sure the full path to the "init.d" directory id specified, this will be
in the /etc directory.

RedHat Systems
/etc/rc.d/init.d

Debian Systems
/etc/init.d

Examples:
-------------

Red Hat Systems

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc/rc.d/init.d

make

make install

-------------

Debian Systems

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc/init.d

make

make install

ACCOUNTS
For New or Existing accounts please read on ...

The rst time tzo is executed, you will be asked to answer some questions
regarding a new or existing account with tzo. If you have an existing
account with tzo, simply enter the Key you received from tzo, if
you are begining a new trial account, select the sub-domain you would like
to use, enter your email address and a tzo Key will be sent to you via email.
Make sure you enter a valid email address or you will not receive a Key.

CONNECTION TYPE

The Connection Type Dialog box congures the tzo Client
to use a specied modem device or ethernet device.

Default Modem Device: ppp0

Default Ethernet Device: eth0

Resolve from Device: Gets the IP Address from the selected device.
When this radio button is selected, the tzo client will detect the device
IP Address. This can be either a private address (10.x.x.x - 192.168.x.x -
172.16.x.x) or a public Internet IP Address. The reason for allowing private
addresses to be used, is so users that connect via VPN's over private networks
can do so easily, and also, if the Dynamic DNS is solely being used for an
internal private network, private addresses are preferred.

Resolve from Server: Ignores the selected device and resolves the gateway
IP Address to the users Domain Name. When this radio button is selected,
the tzo Client ignores what ever the device IP Address is and will
detect the refering IP Address that sent the update to the tzo Servers.
This should be used if you are using tzo behind a rewall or NAT router.

Ports used by tzo:
21330

21331

21332

If you are going through a proxy gateway server then you need to open
the above three ports for Bi-Directional Communication.

IP ADDRESS

Select what type of IP Address you use and how often you would like to
check for a change of your IP Address if it is dynamic...

If you are not sure what type of IP Addess you use then Select the first
radio button: I am not sure what type of IP Address I use.

Select the second radio button if you have a dynamic IP Address,
then select how often you would like to check your IP Address for a change

If you have a static IP Address select the third radio button and
enter your Static IP Address.

SIGN ON / OFF SERVICE

This dialog box enables you to set different actions when you
Sign On / Off of TZO DDNS.

There are two options for Signing ON to tzo...

first: Set your Domain Name to your Current IP Address.

Second: Set your Domain Name to a specifed IP Address - Enter the IP
Address in the Text fifield.

There are four options for Signing OFF of tzo...

first: Set your Domain Name to 0.0.0.0 so others cannot lookup your Domain's
IP Address, or keep others from accessing your computer - The best option for
high security.

Second: Do Not change the IP Address of your Domain Name.

Third: Set your Domain Name to a Specied IP Address - Use this if your have a
backup server that your website is mirrored on or any other type of backup
server you may have.

Fourth: Set your Domain Name to point to a web page that says that you are
temporarily off line - good if you are going to be off line for a short time.

RUNNING TZO AS A SERVICE"

What happens when I check the "Running TZO as a Service" radio button?

Running tzo as a service will allow tzo to start running before you log
on to your computer. This is very useful for unattended operation. In
order to have tzo run as a service, an account first needs to be setup
with tzo and the tzo account on the local system also needs to be setup.
The tzo executable will look for "$(HOME)/.tzo/$(USER).ini" in order to
startup unattended. So, in order for tzo to start as a system service,
their account must first be setup. tzo will look for this .ini upon starting
from the init runlevel.

Depending on the Linux Distribution you are running tzo on, it will
do one of three things to add tzo as a runlevel service. - ONLY IF RUNNING AS root !!!

On Red Hat Systems: tzo uses "chkcong" to add and delete tzo from the init runlevels

On Debian Systems: tzo uses "update-rc.d" to add and delete tzo from the init runlevels.

On all other Linux systems: tzo manually adds and deletes the symlinks for
starting and stopping tzo from the init runlevels.

An alternate way tzo can autostart is with a users login. If you are running
tzo as a normal user (not root), tzo will add a line to the ".bash_profile" file
in that current user's directory. This will autostart tzo in the background when
ever that user logs in.

ENTER NEW TZO KEY

If you change from a trial service to a Full Service with tzo you will need to
enter a new Key. Also, when you renew your Service with tzo, you may need to
enter a new key. Just enter the new Key that you receive from tzo and hit "OK",
this will update your tzo account with your new Key.

CHANGE EMAIL

The Change Email Dialog box enables the email address to be changed for an
account on the tzo DDNS Servers. This change of the email address also effects
the "Email Forwarding Service". If an account has email forwarding, the email
will instantly be forwarded to the new email address.

CHANGE DOMAIN NAME

The "Change Domain Name" Dialog box allows the account domain name to be changed
for Standard and Premier accounts. Standard tzo accounts, which are sub-domains,
(name.tzo.com - or - name.domain.com) can only be changed to the same type of
sub-domain name. Premier tzo accounts can be updated with Top Level Domains or
sub-level domains (domain.com - or - name.domain.com).

TELL A FREIND ABOUT TZO

If you wish to tell a friend or co-worker about tzo you can do it here. This
allows you to put in an email address of someone you want to send information
regarding tzo DNS Services, this will contact our email servers and have a
message sent to whom you choose. This will only send ONE email message and
will NOT keep that address on record.

EXIT

No Brainer ... To exit, please select file - Exit.
Thank you... :^)

FILES

The following files are installed at # make install ...
$(PATH)/tzo - tzo executable.

/usr/share/pixmaps/tzologo.xpm - Dialog Box image

/usr/share/pixmaps/tzo.xpm - tzo icon image.

The following files are created after the tzo client has run at least once.

$(HOME)/.tzo/tzo.log - active account logging for signon/signoffs

BUGS

tzo is in early stages of linux development, so it may not
be completely stable and some features may not be supported. The client has
been successfully tested on RedHat 7.x systems and Progeny Debian.

BUG REPORTS

If you nd a bug in tzo, please send email
to support@tzo.com. Please include your OS type
and the OS version, the version of tzo, and the C compiler you
used to compile it.

Before sending a bug report, please verify that you have the latest
version of tzo. Many bugs (major and minor) are fixed
at each release, and if yours is out of date, the problem may already
have been solved.
